Easthampton Basketball Association

From Section 1, Article 8 of the Easthampton Basketball Association By-Laws:

The E.B.A strives to make basketball available to the youth of Easthampton; and to make the program as positive an experience as possible. Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of basketball with an attitude that can be applied both on and off the court, and to have fun in the process. To help achieve this, the E.B.A. has set in place a behavior code which governs conduct of players, coaches, and fans during all practices, games, and other events sponsored by the E.B.A.

Players Code of Conduct:Players shall be expected to uphold the highest levels of sportsmanship toward their teammates, opposing players, coaches, referees, and fans. We expect players to play hard and fair at all times. Be generous when you win, and gracious when you lose. Obey the rules of the games. Accept the decisions of the officials with good grace, believe in the integrity of the game, and conduct yourself with honor and dignity.

Coaches Code of Conduct: Coaches are expected to provide leadership to their players at all times. Coaches are expected to uphold the highest levels of sportsmanship toward players, other coaches, and referees. A coach’s actions will spread very quickly to the players and fans. The rules of basketball should be regarded as mutual agreements, of which no one should try to evade or break. Officials and opponents should be treated and regarded as honest in intention. Official’s decisions should be accepted without remark, and may only be discussed at an intermission with both coaches and officials present.

Fans Code of Conduct: Parents and fans are expected to cheer for their team and to provide positive support for the players, coaches and referees at all times. This is not the NBA. The children are playing basketball for the sake of the game. They are eager to learn; and actions of the fans toward the referees and the opposing team spreads very quickly to the players. We strive to teach basketball skills and sportsmanship. We need the support of parents to set a proper and positive example for the children.

Fans using profane or vulgar language at any EBA game, practice, or event will be warned by a member of the Board of Directors and/or a referee. Fans harassing opposing players, coaches or parents shall also be warned. Fans harassing referees during or after games shall be warned in a similar fashion. Subsequent offenses may result in the fan(s) being banned from attending future games, practices or events sponsored by the EBA.
